Each year Shelter NI celebrates and honours the memory of Colonel Barney Filor who was one of its founding fathers. Barney was responsible for many other housing associations forming here and also through his wider society and community interests, involved in creating and providing various services from job training to reconciliation
At the end of September, Shelter NI moved into its 35th year, so we have enriched the annual memorial lecture with three keynote speakers.
The event will be held at Stranmillis University College, Belfast, on 21st October commencing at 1:00pm.
Three distinguished speakers will be talking about the following subjects:
- Changing Housing Systems and their Potential Impacts on Homelessness
Marja Elsinga – Professor at Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology, NL
- Social Housing Rent Setting In England + Living Rent
Julia Unwin - Chief Executive of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, UK
- Affordable Rents in Northern Ireland – a Perspective
Paddy Gray - Professor of Housing, University of Ulster, UK
Shelter NI wants to contribute to the housing debate here on a live issue and we hope you will participate. As part of its Social Housing Reform Programme, the Department for Social Development (DSD) is considering a Social Housing Rent Policy for Northern Ireland. Shelter NI will hold parallel workshops at which the DSD will be represented to look at what factors might influence a fair rent policy for Social Housing in Northern Ireland.
Please note that all invitees should confirm attendance with Ânia Gonçalves by email on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 028 90 247752, as soon as possible as places are very limited for this event.
