Shelter NI

They created the charity as a campaigning organization to eliminate homelessness and poor housing and through practical means, to provide services to support homeless people or families or people who are at risk of becoming homeless.

Today the extent of homelessness and unmet housing need has intensified. Homelessness is an extreme form of social exclusion, resulting in multiple inequities in housing, education, health and employment and causing long term impacts on the quality of life of our citizens.

Our Mission

Our mission statement expresses our purpose:- Campaigning to end homelessness and innovating to create sustainable homes and communities

Our Values

As part of our values, we believe everyone has a right to an affordable, accessible, decent, warm and safe home and to have legal protection to remain in that home.

We cannot achieve our vision in isolation. We believe in a collaborative approach to resolving homelessness and we work in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies, homeless people themselves and the public in general.

However, we believe that government and public authorities in particular have a duty to actively prevent homelessness and the risk of homelessness, and to act quickly and effectively to assist those who become homeless to find a decent home with support where necessary and to secure services and facilities to enable people to remain living independently at home.
