Shelter Northern Ireland is a based charity, which promote and facilitate the provision of sufficient decent and affordable homes to end long term homelessness and eliminate poor housing is calling on local people to help it gain extra funding through Localgiving’s Small Charity Week Match Fund campaign. We will be using the funds to support the Helping Hands service: -
“I benefited from GABLE’s Helping Hands service, it made my life easier and my home safer. It was a great professional job; I am very pleased. I will use GABLE’s Helping Hands service again without hesitation whenever some things come up. Without a shadow of a doubt I will recommend this service, it’s a great hassle free service that carries out jobs that no one else wants to take on. Great Service!!! – Victor's story
The campaign starts at 10am on the 22nd June and will run until the fund runs out, or 23:59 on the same day - whichever comes first. During the campaign, one-time donations will be matched pound-for-pound up to £25.
Local supporters can help by making a donation during the campaign. For a one-time £25 donation with Gift Aid, Shelter NI receives £56.25!
Each year Small Charity Week celebrates and raises awareness of the essential work of the UK’s small charity sector - of the invaluable contribution that these groups make to the lives of millions of individuals, communities and causes across the UK and the rest of the world.
The Small Charity Week match fund has been kindly funded by the FSI and a private philanthropist.
Tony McQuillan, Director at Shelter NI said,
“We can no longer ignore the scale of homelessness in NI. Thousands of families and children continue to be denied their right to have a home of their own because we are all prepared to settle for homeless people living in a hostel or other temporary accommodation for long periods. Justice demands an end to long term homelessness, we all have a responsibility to act now.
The Small Charity Week Match Fund is an exciting campaign and a fantastic opportunity for us to kick start our summer fundraising. All donations will make a huge difference to us and with the added bonus of doubled donations we hope local people will join in. Even an additional £100 of funding would help us to continue the Helping Hands services”
Stephen Mallinson, Chief Executive of Localgiving, said:
“Local charities are at the forefront of every community, offering vital services and helping the most vulnerable people in society. Localgiving hopes that through the Small Charity Week Match Fund campaign, more people are able to connect with their local charities and community groups.
This campaign also encourages local organisations to engage with online fundraising, an increasingly important channel for groups who are trying to take financial control of their futures.”
